January Kindergarten Kapers

Mrs. Carrie Pruett    Room 101

Dear Parents,

Happy New Year!!!! I hope you and your family had a wonderful holiday. Now it is back to school and Act II of your child’s kindergarten year. What an exciting five months we have in store!

We are beginning to increase our reading and writing skills. The students will spell the words as they hear the sounds (please do not correct them unless they ask you to). Please do not be distressed by misspelled words! Phonetic spelling is a remarkable way of putting sounds together in a young child’s mind. Let them explore the new world of sounds that they are hearing.

Our next big event will be our “100” day celebration to be held on Tuesday, January 26th.

. Please mark your calendars. Daily we have been adding a numbered circle to our 100 day bubble gum machine and we are fast approaching 100 days. What a great reason for a celebration!!!

On that day we will be counting everything we can possibly find from 1-100. We will be sharing stories of children, schooling, and times of a by-gone era 100 years ago. I would ask that you try; if possible, to dress your child as they might have looked 100 years ago. Rummage through the dress-up box and see what you can come up with. The children will love it!!!

Now for the real fun…………you and your child are to create a collage of 100 items on the piece of poster board that is attached. Have fun helping your child create a masterpiece!!! Suggestions might be dried beans, macaroni noodles, toothpicks, chow mein noodles, M&M’s, small stones, pennies, etc… We will hang the finished product in the hallway or classroom, so please make sure that the items are securely glued (glue gun) and that the entire project is covered with see-through plastic wrap to protect it. Please send the collage on or before the “100th” day. Have fun!!!

Again, thank you for the wonderful Christmas gifts! I appreciate you and your child more than you will ever know!  I also want to thank the parents for our terrific classroom Christmas party and favors that were provided for the children. You are the best room parents ever!!!! Thanks for everything, but mostly for sharing your wonderful children with me. They make my day bright everyday!!!
